$2m Magic Millions Classic awaits Russian Conquest

It seems that every season the Peter and Paul Snowden camp have a strong hand of two-year-olds under their care and this year looks like being no different. After a solid debut win at Newcastle in the Max Lees last month, their filly Russian Conquest ($5.50EF) put them to the sword in the Drinkwise Plate over 1100m at Royal Randwick Sunday.

The Russian Revolution progeny defeated Snitcat ($8) by three and a quarter lengths, with Schalailed ($11) a further half length away in third.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden was no surprised by today’s dominant performance, explaining that she is now living up to the potential she has always promised.

“She really franked what she’d been showing at home,” Snowden said.

“It’s good to see her come to the races today and do that.

“She was a little bit fresh today, that’s not a bad thing. But that was a very authoritative win.”

Russian Conquest had six weeks in between her debut effort and this victory, and Snowden believes that might have been the key to her strong showing.

“I wanted to give her a bit of a freshen up,” Snowden said.

“She is still probably a bit away from being fully furnished, yet that little break she had did its job.”

With the lucrative two-year-old Magic Millions on the Gold Coast looming on January 15, Snowden is of the opinion that she can be competitive in the $1.94 million event.

“That was just what we wanted to see going towards the coast in three week’s time,” Snowden said.

“She’s got a really good high cruising speed, she’s doing things better and better each week. Come three week’s time she’ll make her presence felt.

“100% we are going straight there. She has enough money to get into it.”

The TAB has now installed Russian Conquest on the third line of Magic Millions Classic betting at $11 for the Gold Coast two-year-old feature.
