Icarian Dream fell well short in last year’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic, but trainer Ciaron Maher believes the filly deserves another chance on the Gold Coast stage.
The daughter of Blue Point will line up in Saturday’s $3 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas over 1400 metres.
Her return comes 12 months after finishing 12th, beaten 6½ lengths, when a wide draw proved costly in the two-year-old feature.
“We were coming to the Gold Coast 2YO (Classic) full of confidence until the barrier draw (when) I think we got 20-something,” Maher said.
“She’s always been a horse with a lot of ability.
“Two starts ago she ran well and it was then we thought, ‘right, we’ll aim up here at this this race’.”
Icarian Dream comes off a solid third in the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m), behind last weekend’s The Sunlight winner Grafterburners.
Maher says the filly is back near her best and ready to peak, though she will have to topple Guineas favourite Ninja.
