Group 1 winners Gringotts and Light Infantry Man will carry Ciaron Maher’s hopes in Saturday’s $1 million 7 Stakes at Randwick.
The pair resumed in the Group 1 Winx Stakes last month, where Gringotts finished fifth and Light Infantry Man tailed off last.
Gringotts had little luck that day but pleased Maher with a strong 1200m Wyong trial.
“He will improve a fair bit off his first run,” Maher said.
The gelding’s last second-up outing delivered his maiden Group 1 in the George Ryder Stakes, when he edged out Fangirl, who could again line up on Saturday.
Light Infantry Man had excuses in the Winx Stakes on a Heavy 10, with Maher noting his previous best came off a fast tempo in the Australian Cup.
The 7 Stakes headlines a card also featuring the $1m Group 2 The Shorts (1100m), though last year’s winner Headwall is sidelined by injury.
