Maher stable confident Glory Daze can shine in McKell Cup

While Randwick remains his favoured track, Glory Daze will return to Rosehill on Saturday with strong backing from the Ciaron Maher camp for the Listed McKell Cup (2000m).

All three of the gelding’s Australian wins have come at Randwick, but he was a solid third at Rosehill last start in the Lord Mayors Cup (2000m).

Maher’s Sydney foreman Johann Gerard-Dubord says the team is happy with his condition.

“I couldn’t be happier with him. He is going well,” Gerard-Dubord said.

“He’s probably got a better record at Randwick… but we don’t have too many options, so he probably has to run.”

Glory Daze excelled on heavy tracks in his past two runs but may not get the same conditions on Saturday.

“I would have loved to see a bit more rain,” Gerard-Dubord added. “But he’s at his right trip and I think it’s the right race.”

Quietness has been scratched to run in the Tattersall’s Gold Crown (2100m) in Queensland.
