Trainer Matt Dunn has dismissed Another Cashie’s latest outing, forecasting that the three-year-old will rebound and deliver a bold showing in the Group Two Queensland Guineas even with his lengthy price tag.
Following a promising fresh-up run at the Gold Coast on April 4, Another Cashie ended up near the rear in the Daybreak Lover Plate (1400m) which went to Queensland Guineas favourite Brave Monarch in an event Dunn prefers to put behind him.
“That was just a disaster last start, and he’ll bounce back from that on Saturday,” Dunn said.
“He missed the start, circled the field, and did way too much work. He drew a bad gate, and the plan was to try to go forward, but he didn’t jump, and we didn’t adjust.
He just worked too hard during the race, but he’s a decent horse and he deserves his spot.”
Although Another Cashie had a poor showing last time, his autumn form supports Dunn’s assessment.
He placed third behind the capable Grafterburners at Eagle Farm in November before going down by a half-length as runner-up to Brave Monarch at the Sunshine Coast to conclude his preparation.
Drawing gate four on Saturday, Dunn sees the $81 outsider as capable of a place at worst.
“Absolutely. From a good gate, we can ride him properly and he’ll make his presence felt,” he said.
“The aim long-term is to get him through to the (Queensland Derby). He’ll run that trip, so that’s our ambitious plan.”
Dunn also anticipates a better result from skilled sprinter Without Parallel in the day’s opener after her unlucky comeback at Doomben where she raced wide the entire trip.
That marked her return since running in the Kosciusko, and though a wide barrier complicates matters this Saturday, Dunn feels she is primed for victory.
“We’re just going to have to use her speed, so hopefully she doesn’t have to work too hard to get across,” he said.
“First-up it didn’t work out for her at all. We got stuck three-deep with no cover and things didn’t pan out as we hoped.
But she’s great. She will be hard to beat, she just needs a bit of luck from that gate.”
Maurraqa and reliable stayer Belvedere Boys complete Dunn’s Eagle Farm lineup.
