Millie De Lune missed a run in the Queensland Oaks, but her winter carnival campaign isn’t over just yet.
Trainer Matthew Smith had hoped to aim her at the Group 1, but low prizemoney meant she didn’t gain a start.
Instead, she claimed a 2000m win at Randwick on June 7 and returns on Saturday in the Elite Sand & Soil Handicap (1800m).
“We didn’t quite get to the Oaks,” Smith said.
“She is fit and well so we thought we’d give it a shot.”
A third career win would likely earn her a start in the Winx Guineas (1600m) on July 5.
Smith will also saddle up Astero in the Civic Stakes (1400m) and Time Quest in the Switzerland @ Coolmore Handicap (1200m).
“He hasn’t been beaten far in any of them,” Smith said of Astero. “His form doesn’t look great but he is going really well.”
