Mr Brightside back for third Memsie tilt

The Memsie Stakes wouldn’t feel complete without Mr Brightside, and the Lindsay Park star returns for a third crack at the 1400m feature on Saturday.

The gelding claimed the race in 2023 and was runner-up last year. Now an eight-year-old, he is chasing his 20th career win and pushing past $17.5 million in prizemoney.

Trainer Ben Hayes said the stable favourite remains in terrific shape. “He hasn’t put a foot wrong this prep… He’s just a tough, genuine horse, but it’s going to be a very good Memsie and he’ll run well with improvement to come.”

Mr Brightside had two jump-outs in preparation, including a strong 1000m hit-out to sharpen his fitness. Hayes noted the horse presents better this spring, with a sleek coat after returning from Hong Kong and quarantine.

Stablemate Here To Shock also lines up after finishing third in the Group 2 P B Lawrence Stakes earlier this month.
