Mr Brightside to tune up at Flemington jump-out

The seasoned performer Mr Brightside is set to continue his build-up for a return to racing with a jump-out session at Flemington.

The nine-year-old, under the care of Lindsay Park trainers Ben, Will, and J D Hayes, is slated to participate in a 1000-metre jump-out on Friday morning.

Mr Brightside is currently in training for his reappearance in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes, a 1400-metre event scheduled for Caulfield on August 29.

The gelding was sidelined for the autumn season following a minor procedure to address a bone chip earlier in the year. His last competitive outing was a fifth-place finish behind Ceolwulf in the Group 1 Champions Mile (1600m) on the concluding day of last year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington.

Mr Brightside completed his first jump-out since that run at Flemington on August 3, adhering to the Lindsay Park philosophy of a less strenuous workout.

It is anticipated that Mr Brightside will engage in a more vigorous gallop on Friday.

“He pulled up good from that jump-out, no problems at all,” J D Hayes commented.

“He’ll trial again on Friday and then it’s two weeks to the Memsie and then hopefully we can give him a day away with a course proper gallop, hopefully that will be at Sandown.

“But the way he is going, I reckon he’ll run a cheeky race first-up.”

Also scheduled for a jump-out on Friday is the accomplished two-time Cups winner Half Yours, who will contest the opening heat of the morning alongside Mr Brightside.

Half Yours’s most recent start was in Brisbane, where he secured fourth place in the Q22 (2200m) at Eagle Farm in June.

The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained stayer is being prepared for a return in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) on September 12, with his sights set on defending his title in the Melbourne Cup in November.
