Neasham’s Magic Millions Classic 2022 hopes Soaring

Magic Millions second favourite Soaring Ambition could go into the $2 million race without another run.

Trainer Annabel Neasham will nominate the filly for a two-year-old handicap at Doomben on New Year’s Day but says she is more likely to keep her fresh for the January 15 target.

“I am leaning towards not running her again just because she is so professional,” Neasham told Sky Racing Radio.

“We will nominate her (for Doomben) and have a look. I will see how she is during the week and if I think she needs a run, we’ve got the option there, but I suspect she will just head straight to the main race.”

Soaring Ambition overcame a significant bump on the home turn to charge late and win the Magic Millions race at Wyong, which has historically been a good pointer to the Gold Coast feature.

The youngster has continued to please Neasham at home and she believes the filly has improved from her debut experience.

“She galloped yesterday (Tuesday) and I thought that was the best bit of work that I’ve seen her do,” Neasham said.

“It’s always encouraging when they improve out of the back of a run as two-year-olds.”

Soaring Ambition, an $8 chance for the Magic Millions behind $2.20 favourite Coolangatta, will travel to Queensland on Thursday with Neasham keen to give her plenty of time to acclimatise.

If she doesn’t race at Doomben, she is likely to have a barrier trial in early January to round out her preparations.

Neasham also revealed she will welcome back stable stars Zaaki and Mo’Unga on Monday, along with recent European acquisitions Top Ranked and Laws Of Indices.

A Group 1 winner over 1400m in France, Laws Of Indices was an eye-catching fifth in the Golden Eagle and while Neasham is yet to lock in an autumn program, she is hopeful he can be competitive at the highest level in Australia.

“He is a Group One winner in the northern hemisphere so it will be our plan to try to make him a Group One winner and a stallion down here,” Neasham said.
