New Pro-Ride training track for Rosehill

A new all-weather training track has been opened at Rosehill, the first stage of a multi-million dollar investment in the western Sydney racecourse.

The Australian Turf Club opened the 1700m-long, six-metre wide Pro-Ride track on Thursday.

It consists of a special mix of sand, polymer and fibre materials and also includes full plastic running rails.

Stage Two of the development will begin at the end of the month to convert the former Pro-Ride track into a new sand track for training purposes.

Rosehill is home to two of Sydney’s biggest stables, premier trainer Chris Waller and Hawkes Racing.

“It’s going to be a big asset,” Waller said.

“The new surface will enable less breakdowns. It’s a very forgiving surface with lot of cushion in it.

“The key to these tracks is that it is the same 365 days of the year.”

Michael Hawkes said having the Pro-Ride in addition to grass was a benefit for all horses

“It’ll take a lot of pressure off grass tracks,” Hawkes said.
