Ole Dancer kept her perfect record intact with a determined victory at Caulfield, prompting trainer Peter Moody to consider a tilt at spring riches.
The two-year-old filly, having her first run since a debut win at Murray Bridge in March, took out the $150,000 Senet Gambling Law Expert 2YO Handicap (1200m) in gritty fashion.
Moody, who trains in partnership with Katherine Coleman, believes she has talent but may lack the maturity for a demanding spring campaign.
“I think she’s a lovely filly and I think she’s got the ability to be running in Spring races but whether she has the maturity will probably be the question mark,” Moody said.
“If she got to a race like the Thousand Guineas she’d probably get there on one run.”
Blake Shinn gave Ole Dancer ($3.90) a patient ride before surging home to defeat Thanks Gorgeous ($6.50) by a length, with Shystar ($9) in third.
“It was instinctive from her… she took the gap and was very brave,” Shinn said.
The filly is by Ole Kirk, Australia’s incoming champion first-season sire.
