Team behind On Display seeks to correct last year’s disappointment as they pursue success in a Stakes event in Adelaide.
The four-year-old mare, prepared by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, is aimed at the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) over 1600m at Morphettville on April 25, where she placed fourth 12 months ago prior to securing the Listed Morphettville Guineas (1600m) seven days afterward.
This Saturday, the mare has entries in both the Listed Anniversary Vase (1600m) at Caulfield and the Listed City Of Adelaide Handicap (1529m) at Morphettville.
Preparations for her Queen Of The South Stakes campaign have focused on the Anniversary Vase, where she has secured gate three and Thomas Stockdale will be aboard.
Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr have also entered Golden Path and Taken in the Anniversary Vase, though Kent Jnr believes On Display holds the strongest prospects among the three.
“She’s the high quality one of ours in the race,” Kent Jnr said.
“She is going well. She found the leader biased track at Flemington difficult to overcome and last time behind Treasurethe Moment, I haven’t seen a race where they have gone that slowly for a long time.
“The sectionals meant she had no chance, but she zipped home as good as anything in the race and she’ll run well.”
On Display heads into Saturday third-up, following a third placing to Scheelite in the Shaftesbury Avenue Stakes at Flemington on March 7 and a fifth to Treasurethe Moment in the Sunline Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield on March 21.
Taken carries the lowest weight among the Price and Kent Jnr runners but faces the outside barrier in the 14-horse lineup.
Kent Jnr was pleased with Taken’s recent second on a soft surface at Flemington.
“I thought he was excellent and he should be a good chance down in the weights, despite the draw,” Kent Jnr said.
Golden Path is pointed toward a Queensland assignment, and Kent Jnr anticipates he requires one more outing after his sixth-place finish resuming in the same Flemington event as Taken.
“He’s heading to Queensland and I think he needs another warm up run before he strikes form,” Kent Jnr said.
