Veteran jockey Jeff Penza made the most of a rare metro ride for Chris Waller, guiding Changing Colours to an emphatic win at Rosehill.
With many top Sydney riders at Eagle Farm, Waller turned to Penza, who regularly rides for the stable on the provincial circuit.
“He’s very fit, keen and enthusiastic… He really is a credit to himself,” Waller said.
The pair recently combined to win a feature race with Summer Flame at the Scone carnival.
On Saturday, Changing Colours ($6.50) was making her Sydney debut in the Precise Air Handicap (1400m) after four placings in Melbourne.
The daughter of The Autumn Sun appreciated the switch, storming home from the rear to beat Fairway Star ($16) by 1¼ lengths, with Gently Rolled ($31) a long neck away in third.
“She was so good… When she got on that roll coming to the turn and was finally exposed to a bit of daylight she never looked back,” Penza said.
“It’s a good day.”
