The Anthony and Sam Freedman stable has unearthed another star three-year-old, with Point Barrow storming home to win the Red Roses Stakes (1200m) down the Flemington straight on Thursday.
The victory continued a stellar week for the Freedmans, following Tentyris’s triumph in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, with that filly set to contest the VRC Champions Sprint on Saturday.
Ridden by Daniel Stackhouse, Point Barrow unleashed a dazzling sprint to overhaul stablemate Inkaruna and win by 1¼ lengths.
“She’s got a really sharp change-up speed, but she’s still doing a bit wrong,” Sam Freedman said. “Once she learns her craft, she can be a pretty special filly.”
Racing in the McKenna family colours, the win carried emotional significance just a year after the passing of Colin McKenna, breeder of Melbourne Cup winner Half Yours.
Freedman hinted Point Barrow would head to the paddock, with the Robert Sangster Stakes a potential autumn target.
