Trainer Gary Portelli is hopeful Queen Of Clubs can signal her spring potential when she lines up in the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
While conceding the filly may find the distance too sharp, Portelli has been buoyed by her strong trackwork and the booking of champion jockey James McDonald.
“Her trackwork on Tuesday was a Group One performance gallop,” Portelli said.
“She worked with Encap, matched motors with him if not had his measure. They ran really good time on the Polytrack so I’m going to the race pretty excited.”
McDonald, who trialled Queen Of Clubs at Warwick Farm, has committed to the Silver Shadow, and Portelli hopes the Flight Stakes remains on her radar.
Stablemate Encap is also set to resume in the Show County Quality (1200m), despite reservations about the wet track.
The Doncaster Mile placegetter, who also contested the All Aged Stakes (1400m) last autumn, will be ridden by Nash Rawiller as he builds towards the Theo Marks Stakes (1300m).
