Pride of Jenni’s preparation for Group 1 Doomben Cup in full swing

Ciaron Maher’s stable is keeping its options open with Pride Of Jenni, the reigning Horse of the Year, as she prepares for a potential Group 1 campaign in Brisbane.

The mare is entered for the Listed Anniversary Vase (1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday, a Quality Handicap with a 61kg maximum topweight.

Assistant trainer Jack Turnbull clarified that the entry was merely a way to keep options open ahead of the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) on May 24.

“It’s just her holding a nom and for us keeping our options open,” Turnbull said. “We may go anywhere. We could use that as a jump-out, but the likelihood is that she will jump-out the Monday after.”

Pride Of Jenni is still on track for the Doomben Cup after returning to her owner’s Mornington Peninsula property following a defeat in the Australian Cup.

Turnbull mentioned the defeat could be attributed to a quick back-up after her peak return performance at Caulfield. “Physically she was fine,” he added, noting her condition since the enforced break has been excellent.

Meanwhile, Holymanz will race in the Anniversary Vase on Saturday.
