Pride Of Jenni lands in Brisbane and settles in ahead of Doomben Cup

Pride Of Jenni wasted no time getting down to business after arriving in Brisbane on Tuesday night ahead of Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben Cup.

The star mare was given a light treadmill canter on Wednesday morning as she prepares for the 2000m weight-for-age feature.

Assistant trainer Jack Turnbull said Pride Of Jenni was part of a larger team flown in for the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

“She travelled up last night and travelled well,” Turnbull said.

“She had a big drink, and then we worked her on the treadmill… it was all very light.”

Turnbull confirmed her fitness has been carefully managed since her recent Caulfield win, with two controlled treadmill gallops and a strong hit-out on Monday with jockey Craig Newitt.

“She’s at a level of fitness where we just have to maintain her,” Turnbull said.

“All the signs—off the track and from her riders—are positive.”

Drawn in barrier one, Turnbull believes she’s well-placed and won’t mind rain if it comes.

“Jenni, she’s in good shape,” he said.
