Royal Symphony gets a look at Caulfield

Unbeaten Royal Symphony has had a look at Caulfield in a pleasing exhibition gallop on Memsie Stakes day as he builds towards his highly anticipated spring return.

The Tony McEvoy-trained colt is the current favourite for next month’s $2 million Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m) after three impressive wins during winter.

Royal Symphony, with Dwayne Dunn aboard, was paired with stablemate Illumicon for a gallop between races on Saturday and sat off his stablemate early before being asked to pick him up in the straight.

McEvoy said Royal Symphony hit a little flat spot early in the straight before picking up quickly and then striding away to be about three quarters of a length in front on the line.

“I really enjoyed what I saw out on the track,” McEvoy said.

McEvoy believes the colt is where he needs him to be two weeks out from his scheduled spring return in the Exford Plate at Flemington.
