Michael Freedman has added further depth to his two-year-old ranks after Satin Summer made a winning debut at Randwick, putting herself on a path toward black type company.
The Written Tycoon filly is out of 2011 Silver Slipper winner Satin Shoes and is a homebred for Belinda Bateman.
Her success delivered Freedman a second Sydney juvenile winner in as many weeks following Outspan’s Rosehill victory last Saturday.
“I think she is a filly going places,” Freedman said.
“Obviously, we’d be keen to try to get some black type somewhere.
“As long as she pulls up alright we’ll have a think about it, but one of those fillies races (in Sydney) might be a nice option or going to Melbourne for one of the fillies’ Blue Diamond Preludes in two weeks’ time.”
Ridden by Tommy Berry, Satin Summer ($6) jumped cleanly, crossed to the lead and kicked strongly to score by 1-1/2 lengths over Zambales ($3.60 fav), with Ciaron’s Star ($7.50) finishing third.
“It wasn’t the plan to lead on her today,” Freedman said.
“I’ve always felt she was a filly that would enjoy having something to follow but the way things panned out, Tommy took the initiative, and she skipped away.”
Freedman also has Breeders’ Plate winner and early Golden Slipper favourite Incognito set to resume in the Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill next weekend.
