Schofield Boosted by Previous Inglis Millennium Success with Screen Idol

Three years on from Learning To Fly’s victory despite a challenging barrier in the Inglis Millennium, Chad Schofield anticipates a similar outcome.

Chad Schofield possesses solid grounds for optimism that a wide draw won’t derail John Thompson’s Screen Idol in the $2 million Inglis Millennium at Randwick.

The leading Sydney rider has triumphed in the event on two occasions, the latest with Learning To Fly, who, similar to Screen Idol, started from the second widest stall.

“When I won on Learning To Fly, it drew wide (barrier 15 of 16) too,” Schofield said.

“This is a different type of filly. Learning To Fly sat last and rounded them up. This filly is a bit speedier, so we’ll see.”

Sired by Nicconi, the sire of Nature Strip, Screen Idol defied her long debut price to narrowly miss out to Shiki in the Gimcrack Stakes (1000m).

The filly has completed two trials ahead of her comeback, and Schofield, involved with her throughout, confirms her ongoing improvement.

“She’s going really well. She was unlucky not to win the Gimcrack. She covered ground that day and just kept finding the line,” he said.

“John tipped her out and she has come back a more mature, stronger filly. She’s got no favours from the barrier draw but she’ll be tough. She will be there late.”

Schofield teams up with Godolphin debutant Threads in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1000m) and rates him highly following two barrier trials together.

Prepared by Ciaron Maher, Threads is the initial raced foal from Group 3 victor Tailleur, and Schofield expects him to shine in top juvenile contests.

“I think he’s a very talented two-year-old colt and it’s exciting to kick him off on Saturday,” he said.

“It’s a good start off race for him. He’s drawn well and I think he’s a horse that could race into the two-year-old features.”

Schofield boasts a busy card of 10 mounts at Randwick, starring the standout filly Tempted for Maher in the Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m). Punters looking for value in the Inglis Millennium should explore the top Australian betting sites.
