Peter Snowden has timed Grand Prairie’s preparation to have the colt peaking third-up for Saturday’s The Rosebud, hoping race fitness will prove decisive.
While key rivals Pallaton ($2.50) and Skyhook ($3.90) resume, Grand Prairie ($7.50) has the benefit of recent racing, including a Kensington win and a heavy-track second at Rosehill earlier this month.
“We wanted to have a bit of fitness on our side… sometimes you can be the fitter horse, not the best horse, to get one of those races nice and early,” Snowden said.
Dropping to 1100m and drawn in barrier three, the Yulong-owned colt is expected to get every chance.
Snowden admits he’s not yet in the class of stablemates Beadman and Raging Force but believes he’s on an upward curve.
The Rosebud, reduced to six runners after Shaggy’s scratching, will be Sydney’s first stakes race of the 2025-26 season and a lead-up to next month’s Golden Rose (1400m).
