So Si Bon heading to Brisbane for the Kingsford Smith Cup

Lindsay Park will have a presence on Derby Day at Eagle Farm when So Si Bon lines up in the Kingsford-Smith Cup.

Lindsay Park will be hoping So Si Bon can give the stable a change of luck in Brisbane when he lines-up in the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup at Eagle Farm.

Trainers T Dabernig & B Hayes had Fifty Stars engaged in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) on Saturday, but a slight knee injury saw him scratched from the weight-for-age contest.

So Si Bon heads to Brisbane in excellent form with the Lindsay Park team planning a two-start campaign for the rising eight-year-old, a winner of eight of his 64 starts.

After contesting the Kingsford-Smith, Lindsay Park is eyeing off the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 12.

So Si Bon has proven competitive in Group 1 contests previously, but is yet to win at the highest level.

The gelding has won two of his last three starts, taking out the Listed March Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 6 before a midfield finish in Sydney.

He returned to Melbourne to claim a second VOBIS Gold Mile (1600m) at Caulfield on April 17, the last time he was sighted.

But Lindsay Park has kept So Si Bon ticking over at their country property at Euroa and the gelding made a trip to Tatura last Monday for a barrier trial.

He finished second over 850m, but wasn’t knocked around before leaving the following night for Sydney ahead of travelling on to Brisbane.

“He trialled at Tatura last Tuesday and trialled really well,” Dabernig said.

“That was more about giving him a bit of atmosphere away from the farm.

“He went up to Randwick and spent 24 hours there and then went on up to Rob Heathcote’s at Eagle Farm.”
