Racing NSW stewards have again adjourned an inquiry into Adam Hyeronimus’ ride aboard Vauban in Saturday’s Chelmsford Stakes (1600m).
The inquiry centred on an incident near the 800m when Vauban’s stablemate Sir Delius, ridden by Tim Clark, shifted in from a three-wide position to settle behind Robusto and ahead of Vauban, who eventually finished third. Sir Delius went on to claim second.
Stewards reviewed betting activity and reported “no concerns”, but called Clark to give evidence on Wednesday before again questioning Hyeronimus.
Clark denied any communication with Hyeronimus during the race, explaining his glances inside were to check there was sufficient room to slot in.
Hyeronimus told stewards he chose not to “give my horse a dig” to hold position, saying it wasn’t in the best interests of Vauban, who was first-up and being prepared for the Melbourne Cup (3200m).
Technical issues forced the hearing to be postponed, with a decision now expected at Rosehill on Saturday.
