Storm Boy retired after Ascot as Coolmore confirms stallion future

Storm Boy, the 2024 Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) winner, has been retired just days after finishing 10th in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (1207m) at Royal Ascot.

The colt was found to be lame following the run and will return to Australia to stand at Coolmore for a $16,500 service fee.

Purchased for $460,000 at the 2023 Magic Millions Yearling Sale by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Storm Boy won five of his 12 starts and earned over $3.5 million.

He kicked off his career with four straight wins, including the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m).

A close third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) rated him at 115, before peaking at 119 in The Everest (1200m).

“He was jaw-dropping, much like his sire Justify,” said Coolmore’s Tom Magnier.

Storm Boy joins fellow Justify progeny City Of Troy on Coolmore’s stallion roster.
