Trainer Dan Morton is confident his Perth mare Super Smink will be competitive in her interstate debut at the Group 1 C.F.Orr Stakes (1400m) on Saturday, despite being considered an outsider at $34 with wagering apps. Morton acknowledges the challenge ahead but believes Super Smink is primed for a strong performance. “I’m not sure if she can win, but I would be very disappointed if she wasn’t competitive at best,” Morton said.
Super Smink, a $45,000 Magic Millions yearling, has already made her mark in Perth, including a third-place finish in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) last year. Morton is confident she’s in peak form for the C.F.Orr Stakes, having had only a short break after the carnival. The race is part of her campaign for a spot in the All-Star Mile at Flemington next month.
With Victorian jockey John Allen aboard, Super Smink will start from barrier five, aiming to add another Group 1 win to her growing résumé.
