Tentyris delivers Coolmore glory and spring relief for Freedman team

After a challenging spring, the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable finally had reason to celebrate when Tentyris stormed home to win the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.

The $2.90 favourite showed a blistering turn of foot under Mark Zahra, scoring by 2¼ lengths over My Gladiola, with Legacy Bound third.

Anthony Freedman, who travelled from Sydney to support his son, said it was a much-needed boost.
“He’s been here all spring and we really haven’t had, what you would call, a great spring,” he said. “I said ‘hang in there’… when you’ve got the right horse, it will do the job.”

Tentyris, a former Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up, resumed in October before winning impressively at Caulfield.

Zahra said he followed instructions to “trust the horse,” and Tentyris did the rest.

The colt could now back up against older rivals in next Saturday’s Group 1 Champions Sprint.
