Golden Rose Free Tips, Bets and Field Preview – 2020

The Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) is one of the highlights of the Spring Carnival and this year’s small but talented field is certain to put on a show at Rosehill on Saturday.

All eyes will be on Queensland superstar Rothfire when he sets out for his second Group 1 win, while there is plenty of value on offer for punters brave enough to take on Robert Heathcote’s talented three-year-old.

We’ve cast our eyes over the entire field and offer our thoughts on this year’s Golden Rose Stakes below!

Golden Rose – Winner

No. 1 Rothfire – Bet Now: $1.90

Rothfire reeled in Farnan with ease first-up in the Run to the Rose (1200m) and it is absolutely no surprise to find him as the short-priced favourite on his way to another Group 1.

The Queenslander has drawn ideally in barrier 8 and showed no problems over this trip winning the J.J. Atkins by three lengths at Eagle Farm during the Winter.

Bivouac completed the Run to the Rose – Golden Rose Stakes double last year, and with a perfect 3-0 record second-up, it’s impossible not to see Rothfire following in his footsteps.

Golden Rose – 2nd

No. 2 King’s Legacy – Bet Now: $15.00

King’s Legacy won the Group 1 Sires’ Produce over this distance at Randwick during the Autumn and he is worth forgiving on his first-up run when last of seven in the Run to the Rose.

The son of Redoute’s Choice is a perfect two-from-two second-up and he should appreciate the 1400m now with Hugh Bowman stepping back into the saddle.

Golden Rose – 3rd

No. 4 Ole Kirk – Bet Now: $8.50

Ole Kirk’s only win came over the 1100m at Flemington back in February, but he did show plenty of fight to run on for second behind Rothfire in the Run to the Rose.

The son of Written Tycoon closed the gap on North Pacific over the late stages and is more than capable of finishing in the money following after back-to-back runner up’s this prep.

He loves to get back and run on and Tommy Berry should have plenty of options available to him from barrier 3.

Golden Rose – 4th

No. 6 Global Quest – Bet Now: $21.00

This is a significant step up in class for Global Quest, but there is plenty to suggest he is more than capable of running into the money.

The Chris Waller trained colt ran on for second in the Listed Dulcify Stakes first-up as he now steps back to the 1400m for the first time.

The three-year-old has found the placings in four of his five placings to date and could run a sneaky race at odds from the soft draw.

Golden Rose Suggested Bets

  • 4 United #1 Rothfire
  • 2 Units E/W #2 King’s Legacy
