The final Group 1 race on the Australia calendar will be contested at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse on Saturday, and we’ll be treated to an exciting edition of the Kingston Town Classic.
Some of Perth’s best gallopers will be joined by a couple of east coast Group 1 winners, and the Kingston Town Classic shapes as a terrific betting contest.
Kingston Town Classic – Winner
No. 12 Inspirational Girl – Bet Now: $2.20
She was simply outstanding in the Group 1 Railway Stakes a fortnight ago and I’ve put Inspirational Girl on top of my Kingston Town Classic tips as well.
The Reliable Man mare has recorded nine wins and two minors from her eleven career starts so far, taking out a 1400m race and the Group 3 Asian Beau in the lead-up to her Railway Stakes triumph.
Breeding suggests that she’ll only be better out to 1800m and Pikey retains the ride – I really cannot find a reason why she won’t be in the finish again.
Kingston Town Classic – 2nd
No. 4 Too Close The Sun – Bet Now: $8.50
Too Close The Sun was the best of the rest in the Railway, and he’s another horse that will be better over 1800m in the Kingston Town Classic.
The Carlton House gelding doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and announced himself to the greater Australian racing community during an autumn preparation this year, highlighted by consecutive wins in the Teran Cup and Warrnambool Cup.
He has won one race and finished second twice since resuming and has only been beaten by the one horse this prep – Inspirational Girl.
Kingston Town Classic – 3rd
No. 11 Truly Great – Bet Now: $17.00
These a pretty similar numbers to the ones I put up for the Railway, and I’ve got Truly Great running third on Saturday.
A stable mate of Inspirational Girl, Truly Great won each of his first three starts this time, including the Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes, but he could only manage a seventh placing in the Group 1 feature of a couple of weeks ago.
Being by Dundeel, he too will relish getting further out in trip, he’s rock-hard fit, and I think that this is the better Group 1 target for him.
Kingston Town Classic – 4th
No. 8 Cup Night – Bet Now: $34.00
Cup Night hasn’t won in four starts back from a spell, but he also hasn’t returned a poor effort, and he is up to another competitive showing in the Kingston Town Classic.
The five-year-old son of Maschino finished second behind Stageman in the Listed Black Heart Bart when resuming, finishing fourth int eh Group 3 Northerly Stakes and sixth in both the Asian Beau and the Railway, most recently.
He’ll need plenty to go his way, but he’s as tough as they come and he’s sure to return his all again on Saturday.
