The second $2 million feature race on the Gold Coast on Saturday will see a classy field of fillies, colts and gelding assemble for the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.
Won by some genuine starts in years gone by, the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas is the major target for most horses of this age group that are in work each and every summer, and this year’s race looms as a particularly exciting prospect.
Magic Millions Guineas – Winner
No. 3 Away Game – Bet Now: $4.00
She won the 2YO race last year and I am confident that Away Game can complete the set in Saturday’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.
The classy daughter of Snitzel simply doesn’t know how to run a bad race and has amassed more than $2.7 million in prize money from her four wins and two career placings (nine starts).
She ran second in the Slipper, won the Percy Sykes and finished fifth in the Group 1 Robert Sangster during the backend of her two-year-old season, and skipped the Spring Carnival to instead target this race.
She was only just pipped late by a far fitter Isotope in the Gold Edition Plate when resuming, and that hit out has reportedly brought her right on.
Magic Millions Guineas – 2nd
No. 13 Isotope – Bet Now: $2.70
I’m confident that the market has this right, in that one of Away Game or Isotope will be the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, but I think that this horse is unders at her current price and I’m therefore taking her on.
It’s virtually impossible to fault anything that Isotope has done so far, particularly this preparation.
The Deep Field filly finished second over 1050m when resuming at Doomben and simply hasn’t looked back, winning both the Mode Plate and the Gold Edition leading into this.
Her turn of foot to run down Away Game last time was breathtaking, but that horse harbours a lot more upside and is probably just the smarter filly.
Magic Millions Guineas – 3rd
No. 12 Forbidden Love – Bet Now: $5.50
Forbidden Love was an impressive winner of the Gosford Guineas when resuming and she can fight out the finish of the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas as well.
The All Too Hard filly was outstanding during the Spring Carnival, and won the Listed Reginald Allen Quality before ending her prep third in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes on Derby Day.
She’ll take plenty of improvement into this race, was a big winner at Tuesday’s barrier draw after picking the 4 marble, and she’ll take plenty of beating.
Magic Millions Guineas – 4th
No. 17 Redoute’s Image – Bet Now: $34.0
First emergency Redoute’s Image has gained a start following the scratching of Smart ‘N’ Sexy, and there are far worse $34 shots than her.
The daughter of Redoute’s Choice has returned some lovely efforts in good races throughout her career, and has stripped fitter for three starts back this time.
I thought she’d win the Class 4 race that she contested here last week, but she did in fact look a run short when finishing third, and I like that she is on the short back-up into this race.
