Pakenham Cup Free Tips, Bets and Field Preview – 2020

The regional Cups continue on Saturday and ten stayers will seek their share in a cool $300,000 in the Listed Pakenham Cup!

Brimham Rocks has been a model of consistency recently and he has been charged with carrying a heavy 62kgs topweight, but he has live claims on winning the Pakenham Cup alongside several other leading contenders.

Pakenham Cup – Winner

No. 5 Creedence – Bet Now: $5.50

Creedence has been up and racing for some time, but his runs have been spaced, and I think he’ll be tough to beat in the Pakenham Cup.

The Helmet gelding won a couple of 2000m Handicaps at Flemington and The Valley early in his prep, finishing midfield in both The Bart Cummings and the Geelong Cup, and running fourth in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth on Stakes Day, most recently.

The booking of Craig Williams to ride is positive and he has options from the rails draw.

Pakenham Cup – 2nd

No. 8 Scarlet Dream – Bet Now: $7.50

Scarlet Dream has been hinting at a big performance all prep, and she gets another chance in the Pakenham Cup.

The Sebring mare was probably at her best during her three-year-old season, but she has continued to plug away in stronger races than this one, finishing fourth in the Craven Plate and the Tattersall’s Cup in Sydney most notably this prep.

She’s rock-hard fit, takes 6kgs from Brimham Rocks and with even luck, she’s certainly up to winning something of this quality.

Pakenham Cup – 3rd

No. 2 Princess Jenni – Bet Now: $5.50

Princess Jenni stormed back into winning form with an eye-catching performance in the Bendigo Cup in October and she has been freshened since that effort.

The Group 1 winner did take a few to get going when resuming this time in, but her last-start effort, beating home a quality field of stayers including the likes of Pondus was particularly impressive, and amongst the best that she has produced in her career.

She hasn’t won fresh previously, and I just wonder if she might find a couple of these rivals a little too sharp.

Pakenham Cup – 4th

No. 4 Attorney – Bet Now: $4.50

Attorney is as tough and consistent as they come, and he can return another competitive effort in the Pakenham Cup.

The six-year-old son of Makfi won the Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality at Rosehill in September and has had two spaced runs in the wake; both fourth placings in the St Leger and the Zipping Classic.

He races well under these conditions and with gaps between his appearances, and the booking of Nash Rawiller to ride is a big positive.

Pakenham Cup Suggested Bets

  • 2 Units E/W #5 Creedence
  • Boxed Trifecta of the selections above
