Just eight horses have accepted, but the 2021 Queen Elizabeth Stakes still shapes as the most highly anticipated race of the autumn.
The next instalment of the Addeybb vs Verry Elleegant series is bolstered by the likes of Sir Dragonet, Mugatoo and Mo’unga, each attempting to pull off an upset, and all but two acceptors have tasted success at Group 1 level previously.
Queen Elizabeth Stakes – Winner
1 Addeybb– Bet Now: $2.80
He was outstanding in his first race back in Australia last time and I think that Addeybb can and will defend his crown in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
The Pivotal gelding recorded two wins from as many starts in Australia last year, and returned to the UK in outstanding condition, finishing second in the Group 1 Princes Of Wales’s Stakes and winning the Group 1 Champion Stakes most notably.
Given he finished only a length behind a fit Verry Elleegant in the Ranvet Stakes a few weeks ago, I’m confident he’ll take plenty of improvement into this and go one better.
Queen Elizabeth Stakes – 2nd
7 Verry Elleegant– Bet Now: $2.50
I can’t find a reason why Verry Elleegant won’t be in the finish again on Day 2 of The Championships.
The Zed mare’s ability and record have been well documented, and unsurprisingly, she has been outstanding again this preparation.
She hit the line to finish third in the Apollo Stakes and has since won both the Chipping Norton and the Ranvet, and she is at peak fitness for her Grand Final on Saturday.
She is drawn ideally, will be ridden by James McDonald and will surely take a power of beating again.
Queen Elizabeth Stakes – 3rd
2 Sir Dragonet – Bet Now: $6.50
I don’t think that the drop in trip will be a concern and the Tancred Stakes winner looks to be the best of the rest in the Queen Elizabeth.
The Camelot entire found form around some of the world’s best horses in Europe last year, and stormed home to win the Cox Plate in his first race for Maher & Eustace; ending his prep sixth in the Melbourne Cup for good measure.
He needed his first couple this time to find form, but was outstanding into fourth in the Ranvet Stakes before winning the Tancred in impressive fashion last time.
He’s another that is at peak fitness for this race and Bossy keeps the ride.
Queen Elizabeth Stakes – 4th
3 Mugatoo – Bet Now: $7.00
He doesn’t know how to run a bad race and Mugatoo can return another bold effort in the Queen Elizabeth.
The talented son of Henrythenavigator recorded the best win of his career in the All-Star Mile two starts back, and he was impressive again into fourth in last weekend’s Doncaster Mile.
2000m is probably his best trip and under the conditions of this race, he can make his presence felt again.
