It’s arguably the race of the season in Adelaide each year and some of the country’s best sprinters will line up at Morphettville on Saturday for The Goodwood.
Gytrash’s fresh record is nothing short of outstanding, but he has opened second-favourite in The Goodwood betting behind fellow Group 1 winner Behemoth, who first stamped himself as a runner to follow in this very race two years ago.

The Goodwood – Winner
No. 2 Gytrash – Bet Now: $3.30
I am a bit of a sicko for Gytrash, but for good reason obviously, and I think he’s the one to beat in The Goodwood.
Having won the Black Caviar Lightning as a rank outsider when resuming in 2020, the Lope De Vega gelding proved to be one of the standout performer of the year, placing in several other Group 1 contests, The Everest and ending his year with a lucrative win in the Yes Yes Yes Stakes.
There is absolutely no doubting his quality, he is yet to finish worse than second in six previous fresh attempts and he’s drawn to receive every chance under Jason Collett from barrier 4.
The Goodwood – 2nd
No. 1 Behemoth – Bet Now: $4.20
Other than the order, I think that the bookies have just about got this one right, and I’m confident that Behemoth will run into The Goodwood quinella.
Purchased for peanuts in the grand scheme of racing, Behemoth has enjoyed a glittering career and has taken his connections on a ride like nothing else.
With his wins in the Memsie and the Rupert Clarke the obvious highlights, the All Too Hard gelding resumed in January for a dominant win over 1100m here at Morphettville and wasn’t far from the winner in either of the Futurity Stakes and the All-Star Mile.
He too is drawn well and has had the benefit of a lovely trial in the lead-up to his return.
The Goodwood – 3rd
No. 9 Instant Celebrity – Bet Now: $6.00
She was very impressive in the Robert Sangster Stakes a fortnight ago and I think that Instant Celebrity is the best of the rest in The Goodwood field.
Instant Celebrity has had seven trips to the races for an impressive five wins and a placing.
While she clearly needed the run when fourth in the Redelva Stakes when fresh, she stormed home to claim her first Group 1 victory last time out and as a three-year-old filly, she gets into the race extremely well.
Jamie Kah is obviously a very big tick as well.
The Goodwood – 4th
No. 5 Viridine – Bet Now: $26.00
Going for a bit of value to fill The Goodwood first four and I think that Viridine can run a cheeky race second-up.
Godolphin clearly thought that he was going to be an absolute star earlier in his career, and while he hasn’t quite lived up to that hype, there’s no doubt that he has improved throughout the last twelve months, and that has been telling in a few lovely black type wins.
He’ll take plenty of improvement from a credible, albeit well-beaten fourth in the DC McKay Stakes when resuming and the 1200m will be ideal.
