I simply cannot believe that we are already here – the first Group 1 of the season!
The Winx Stakes has drawn an outstanding field worthy of its name, but the return of champion mare Verry Elleegant is undoubtedly the major talking point, and her impressive fresh record has seen her open our favourite in Winx Stakes betting.

Winx Stakes – Winner
No. 12 Verry Elleegant – Bet Now: $2.90
I was very intrigued when I saw Colette in Winx Stakes nominations at the beginning of the week, but with that mare being kept for a different spring launchpad, I’m now more than comfortable with putting Verry Elleegant on top.
The star mare’s career record speaks for itself, but in short, she has now won eight Group 1 races, and simply doesn’t know how to run a bad one.
Having won this race at the beginning of her last spring prep, I’m confident that James McDonald can pilot her to the same result on Saturday.
Winx Stakes – 2nd
No. 6 Star Of The Seas – Bet Now: $26.00
I’m actually tipping the same Winx Stakes quinella as last year, as I think that Star Of The Seas can return another impressive fresh effort.
The Ocean Park gelding has been a great horse for the Waller stable throughout his career, and he is unlucky not to have tasted success at the highest level, but is a multiple Group 1 placegetter.
His fresh record currently stands at 7:2-3-0 and with clear passage, I think he can be in the finish once more.
Winx Stakes – 3rd
No. 11 Mo’unga – Bet Now: $8.00
Group 1 winner Mo’unga will also resume in the Winx Stakes and is yet to miss placing at this point of his preparation.
The Savabeel entire has been a good horse since making his debut, but it is fair to say that he went to another level under the care of Annabel Neasham last time, and he won the Rosehill Guineasmost notably.
He’ll need some luck after drawing barrier 12, but he does tend to get back regardless, and the booking of Tommy Berry certainly enhances his chances.
Winx Stakes – 4th
No. 7 Keiai Nautique – Bet Now: $61.00
The unknown factor in the 2021 Winx Stakes field is undoubtedly the Japanese raider Keiai Nautique, and I’m going to thrown him into my numbers at a big price.
The Deep Impact entire has tended to mix his form during the early stages of his career, but he has raced well around some of the world’s best horses, and he has pulled out a sharp run when fresh on more than one occasion.
He’s had the benefit of a couple of trials in the lead-up to this race and will launch from barrier 4 under Bossy.
