Tyler Schiller must obtain medical clearance to carry out his scheduled rides at Wagga and Hawkesbury this week following a fall during racing at Kembla Grange.
Schiller partnered the Hawkes Racing-prepared Winters Kiss in Wednesday’s second race, where the mare was contesting the lead and seemed poised for a strong finish before faltering in the closing 200 metres.
The rider tried to pull her up from the contest but was thrown and struck the track hard.
Although he regained his footing swiftly, Schiller was pulled from his other mounts that day out of caution.
Racing NSW chief steward Tom Moxon, absent from Kembla, consulted with the on-track stewards and verified that Schiller avoided major harm but must submit medical approval prior to resuming.
“It was a heavy fall, and his head did make significant contact with the ground,” Moxon said.
“He was assessed by the ambulance officers, and he was cleared of any injury, including concussion. He wasn’t showing any signs of concussion.
“But he will need to provide a medical clearance before he can ride again.”
Currently placed ninth in the Sydney jockeys’ premiership, Schiller has one booking at Wyong on Thursday and eight rides at Friday’s Wagga Cup carnival, featuring Bianco Vilano in the highlight event.
He is also set for nine of the 10 races on Saturday’s Hawkesbury standalone program, with key mounts including Captain Furai for Chris Waller in the Gold Cup (1600m) and stablemate Burma Star in the Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m).
