Matt Laurie has already enjoyed success with Vinrock, but the unbeaten colt could deliver much more as he resumes in Saturday’s Group 3 McNeil Stakes at Caulfield.
Laurie bought the son of I Am Invincible for $300,000 before guiding him to Group 1 juvenile glory, after which Yulong secured majority ownership for a hefty sum. Despite the sale, Vinrock remains in Laurie’s stable with lucrative incentives tied to further success.
The colt won the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and ATC Sires’ (1400m) in the autumn, and now targets the $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on September 27.
“There’s still some good improvement in him,” Laurie said. “We think he’ll be competitive, but he’s only going to get better as we get out over a little bit further.”
Vinrock’s first-up test will be against rivals including Tycoon Star, Jimmy Recard and Mcgaw, with his early campaign shaping whether he heads towards the Caulfield Guineas or Coolmore Stud Stakes.
