WALLER CALLS PURTON BUT THE ANSWER IS ‘NO’.
Hong Kong based star jockey Zac Purton unfortunately cannot answer the SOS call from champion trainer Chris Waller to fulfill the hole left by Hugh Bowman this Saturday at Rosehill.
Waller was hoping it would be a matter of slipping Purton onto the mounts his stable had engaged Bowman for on the feature days racing.
After been stood down from engagements at Warwick Farm on Wednesday Hugh Bowman advised RacingNSW stewards that he has a medical certificate advising he is unfit to fulfill riding engagements until 11 April 2018.
Winx is set to run next in the $4 million Longines Queen Elizabeth stakes at Randwick on 14 April.
Winx regular rider fresh off a group one winning double last Saturday in the Rosehill Guineas and George Ryder stakes was set for a big day this weekend at Rosehill with his eight rides including Unforgotten the favourite for the 3yo fillies group one Vinery Stud Stakes 2000m.
Purton would have made the trip in a heartbeat but unfortunately he incurred a suspension for a ride earlier in the month in Hong Kong ruling him out for this Saturday.
With reasonable size fields at Rosehill on the weekend and Sydney’s weather pattern being unpredictable it’s expected Waller will play the waiting game before declaring riders for his runners so he can secure the best available hoop.
