Chris Waller quickly made amends after admitting he got it wrong with promising colt Pictor’s first-up assignment.
After finishing unplaced over 1100m at Canterbury, Pictor was stepped up in trip and delivered an impressive win in The Agency Real Estate Plate (1400m) at Kensington on Wednesday.
“The key was the trip,” Waller’s assistant Charlie Duckworth said. “We probably got it wrong last start… we learned our lesson there and made amends today.”
Pictor ($3.20) finished strongly under James McDonald to beat stablemate Panova ($6) by half a length, with Emballee ($18) completing a Waller-trained trifecta.
Duckworth said the colt had been aimed at the Caulfield Guineas before a minor setback ruled him out.
“He’s a bit behind the others, but he’s a really good colt,” he said. “I imagine he’ll be seen at a higher level through the autumn.”
Later on the card, Gosford Guineas winner Dance To The Boom ($1.60 fav) bounced back to form with a dominant 1400m win for Bjorn Baker’s team.
