The challenge facing rivals of unbeaten colt Warwoven has intensified after the Magic Millions 2yo Classic favourite came up with a handy gate at Tuesday’s Gold Coast barrier draw.
The son of first-season sire Sword Of State will start from barrier six after drawing ideally for the $3 million feature.
Warwoven stamped himself as the market leader with a dominant 3.3-length win at Eagle Farm on January 3, backing up an impressive Randwick maiden victory.
Trainer Bjorn Baker is chasing consecutive wins in the race after saluting with O’ Ole last year and said the colt has thrived since.
“He had a nice gallop this morning,” Bjorn said post Tuesday’s draw.
“He had a good gallop towards the end of last week, and this morning it wasn’t so much about running time.
“It was just about finishing off nicely, following a horse, and he looked really good that last bit.
“He looked to recover well, I think he’s fit and ready to go.”
Baker said the gate should allow Warwoven to use his tactical speed without overdoing it.
While firming to $2.10 with online betting sites, Baker will also saddle Masvingo in the 2yo Classic and O’ Ole in the Magic Millions 3yo Guineas.
