A trainer boldly predicting a trifecta in a Stakes race might sound unlikely — unless it’s Gai Waterhouse talking about the Breeders’ Plate.
The Hall of Famer, who trains in partnership with Adrian Bott, has achieved the feat in each of the past two years.
Waterhouse believes she can repeat the result in Saturday’s $250,000 Group 3 at Randwick with Eviction Notice, I’m Ya Huckleberry and Revengeance.
“I think we’ll trifecta the Breeders’ Plate,” Waterhouse said.
She has previously called future champions early, famously declaring Pierro the Golden Slipper winner after his 2011 Breeders’ Plate victory.
This time, Eviction Notice is the colt she says could follow in Pierro’s footsteps after blitzing his Randwick trial by 7-¾ lengths in 49.53 seconds.
“He’s a very, very sharp horse,” Waterhouse said.
I’m Ya Huckleberry and Revengeance also impressed in their trials, while Tulloch Lodge has strong representation in the Gimcrack Stakes and the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes.
