Trainer Brad Widdup will give promising youngster Anthropoid the chance to prove his credentials in the $1 million Golden Gift at Rosehill after an eye-catching debut.
The colt finished strongly for fourth in the Kirkham Plate (1000m) after getting back early, and Widdup believes the extra 100m on Saturday will suit perfectly.
“I wasn’t going to push on too much further than the other day, but he didn’t get a fair crack at them really, and he was good late,” Widdup said.
A $180,000 son of Prague, Anthropoid is owned by Mulberry Racing, who also campaign Widdup’s sprinter Jedibeel — a contender in the Group 1 Champions Sprint at Flemington — and hold interests in The Everest.
If Anthropoid performs well, Widdup said a freshen-up ahead of the Magic Millions Classic in January is likely.
