Mark Zahra has been booked to ride Fangirl in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
The Chris Waller-trained mare travelled from Sydney on Saturday night and will gallop at Caulfield on Tuesday to familiarise herself with the track.
Fangirl was a late scratching from the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick due to a heavy surface, a condition she has struggled on, going winless from five starts. By contrast, she has four wins from nine runs on soft ground.
“She will run in the Memsie,” Waller said. “She will gallop there Tuesday to get used to the track. The tracks (in Melbourne) dry pretty quickly.”
Waller added that bypassing the Winx Stakes won’t impact her spring preparation, describing her build-up as smooth.
Fangirl could be joined in the Memsie by stablemates Moira, Anisette and Buckaroo. Other key contenders include Mr Brightside, Here To Shock, Antino, Deakin, Another Wil and Zardozi.
