James Cummings is keeping his plans for Rosehill Guineas winner Broadsiding under wraps, but hasn’t ruled out an international campaign for the colt.
The four-time Group 1 winner had to overcome a wide draw, with jockey James McDonald burning energy early to find a better position. The colt eventually settled in a trailing role, and McDonald admitted it was a tense moment. “We rolled the dice, had a crack, paid off,” he said.
Broadsiding ($2.90 betting sites fav) surged to the front before holding off Swiftfalcon ($3.90) and fending off a late challenge from Aeliana ($5.50), winning by a short half-head.
Cummings acknowledged Broadsiding’s efforts, despite doubts about his suitability for 2000 metres. “He’s a brilliant horse, and his performance is worth reflecting on,” he said.
Cummings is considering an overseas campaign for the colt, with the Rosehill Guineas acting as an audition. The Doncaster Mile is also a possibility, though Broadsiding’s handicap weight may be a concern.
Meanwhile, Swiftfalcon is being considered for a return to a shorter distance in the Doncaster, according to jockey Tyler Schiller.
