Gosford is set for its stand-alone Saturday meeting this weekend, with Peter Snowden hoping Xidaki can use the occasion as a launchpad for a winter carnival campaign.

The four-year-old will run in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) after an encouraging return last month in the Hall Mark Stakes (1200m), where he finished less than three lengths behind Mazu.

“He will run in the Takeover Target and then we’ll hopefully go to Brisbane with him,” Snowden said.

“He got back too far first-up but he had a good blow and wasn’t beaten by much.”

Xidaki enjoyed success in Queensland last winter, winning the Group 3 Winx Guineas (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast.

Snowden is also targeting Brisbane for Media World, who claimed his fifth Guineas win at Hawkesbury last weekend. The three-year-old will head to the Fred Best Classic (1400m) next.

Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou will also be hoping to make an impact at Gosford with Sequista, who is eyeing her maiden win in the 2YO Handicap (1200m) after two promising efforts. Ryan hasn’t ruled out a Queensland trip for her, but she’ll need to perform well at Gosford first.
