Trainer Clinton McDonald went from despair to delight after Miss Ole produced a strong performance to win at Sandown Hillside on Saturday.
The two-year-old filly missed the start on debut at Warrnambool, ruining her chances, but made amends with a composed victory in the Sportsbet Jockey Watch Handicap (1000m).
Backed into a $2.50 favourite with wagering companies, she surged clear late under Ben Melham, defeating the previously unbeaten Saluted ($3.80) by 3/4 of a length, with Espana ($14) another 3/4 back in third.
“She’s a very good filly… she’s still learning her craft but it was good,” McDonald said.
The Cranbourne trainer praised her progression, adding she’s come on “big time” since her debut.
A $360,000 Inglis Premier buy, McDonald believes she has stakes potential.
“She might have one more start on the 7th of June. I think she’s a stakes horse for sure.”
Miss Ole is poised to be part of the stable’s spring campaign, with McDonald noting, “She was nice and focused today… I think she’s a filly with a bright future.”
