After heartbreak last year, Yellow Brick is set to take his place in the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), giving the Tony and Maddysen Sears team a long-awaited second chance.
The five-year-old was second emergency in 2023 and missed the start, but returns this year as a $34 outsider, with War Machine heading the market at $3.10.
“Last year we were devastated when he was second emergency and didn’t get a start,” Maddysen Sears said.
“So, this has been his sole goal this time in.”
Yellow Brick had a solid campaign last spring in Sydney, placing in both the Five Diamonds Prelude and the Five Diamonds.
He returned at the Magic Millions before a careful prep aimed at peaking for the Stradbroke.
After finishing 11th to War Machine in the BRC Sprint (1350m), he tuned up with a quiet Doomben trial.
“The horse is flying,” Sears said.
“He looks amazing and he’s ready for Saturday.”
