Tony and Calvin McEvoy are making a return to Flemington, taking over Chris Waller’s former 31-box stable as part of a strategic move.

The duo left Flemington in 2021 to focus on Ballarat but had long hoped to return to headquarters.

That door opened with Waller relocating to Carbine Lodge following James Cummings’ departure.

“This opportunity represents not an expansion, but a strategic restructure of our training model, designed to enhance the way we prepare and develop our horses,” the McEvoys said.

Their Ballarat base offers a quiet country setting with top-class facilities, and Flemington will now provide metropolitan variety.

“By combining these features with a metropolitan base at Flemington, we’re adding valuable variety to our horses’ routines,” they said.

Tony McEvoy previously trained from Flemington during his time with Lindsay Park, and the new base evokes fond memories.

“Flemington provides access to elite training surfaces, weekly high-quality grass jump-outs, and close proximity to metropolitan racing,” they said.

“It’s an honour to take on its legacy, and we’re committed to building our own success from within its walls.”

The move will begin in the coming weeks, just in time for spring.
