Clayton Douglas is eager to see where promising filly Blue Hotel fits among the spring’s three-year-old talent when she resumes in Saturday’s Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.
The daughter of Volcada made a winning debut in Adelaide, taking out the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1000m) — a race her dam also claimed in 2007.
“That was a little plan we set before she had raced, and luckily it came off,” Douglas said.
After considering a tilt at the Group 3 David Coles Stakes in May, connections opted for a longer break to focus on an early spring return.
Douglas acknowledges Saturday’s depth, highlighting rivals Scenic Point and Signature Scent, but believes Blue Hotel’s trial form stacks up well.
“She’s still learning a little bit, but I’m happy with how she is going into Saturday,” Douglas said.
