Half Yours holds firm in Caulfield Cup despite inside draw

Half Yours has drifted slightly in betting for the Caulfield Cup despite drawing barrier two for Saturday’s 2400m feature.

Now a $2.80 favourite, the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained stayer will look to capitalise on a low draw that Calvin McEvoy says will suit his racing style.

“It’s a good draw,” McEvoy said. “These are high pressure contests, and we’ve watched the replays, and the pressure comes on a long way out.”

He said the inside gate would help Half Yours “get a rest for the first half of the race,” adding, “we couldn’t be any happier with the barrier.”

Half Yours earned his ballot exemption with victory in the Naturalism Stakes (2000m) and later finished fourth in the Turnbull Stakes (2000m).

“He’s probably one of the fittest horses,” McEvoy said. “The whole team is up and about … we’re excited to have this opportunity.”

Irish raider Absurde drew inside in gate one, while former stablemate Vauban, now with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, will start from barrier 13.
