Jordan Childs made a rare non-carnival trip to Sydney and was rewarded with a winning double at Rosehill on Sunday.
The Melbourne jockey produced victories aboard Plaintiff in the Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1200m) and Grid Girl in the TAB Handicap (1400m), while also finishing third on Wings Of Desire ($4.20) in the Chandon Handicap (1300m).
Grid Girl ($5 fav) extended her unbeaten preparation to three wins, adding to victories at Kyneton and Cranbourne.
The mare, trained by Ben, Will and JD Hayes, now boasts six wins and five placings from 18 starts.
“It worked out well from the wide gate and the plan was to be positive on her,” Childs said.
“A couple of them wanted to go quick so I was happy to let them go and get a bit of cover.
“It was a good, tough win in the end because she got challenged when she was probably a bit out on her feet but she held on.”
Just Party ($9) finished strongly for second.
Trainer Peter Snowden was buoyed by Plaintiff’s ($3.90) performance, suggesting autumn targets await.
“She looks above average,” Snowden said.
“A little freshen up won’t hurt and get her ready for better class races.”
Runner-up Nitro ($4.20) is a $15 chance for the Magic Millions 3yo Guineas (1400m) on January 17.
