Mr consistency Zou Sensation is chasing two major milestones in The Supernova at Pakenham.

A victory in Saturday’s Southside Racing slot race would take him past $1 million in career prizemoney from nine wins in 31 starts.

It would also push his current preparation beyond the $1 million mark, having already secured four wins and two placings since kicking off in May.

Zou Sensation surpassed $500,000 for the campaign when finishing third behind Jigsaw and Arkansaw Kid in The Meteorite (1200m) at Cranbourne on November 22.

“He came out of that last run really well,” Will Larkin said.

“The drop back to 1200 metres last start wasn’t ideal… but stepping up to the 1400 metres is going to suit.”

Larkin said the gelding’s ability to perform consistently across winter and spring highlights his versatility.

Saturday’s race has drawn a high-class field, including Group 1 winners Here To Shock and Pinstriped, as well as multiple Group 1 placegetter Private Eye.

Last year’s quinella, Here To Shock and Arkansaw Kid, also return.

Larkin acknowledges the tougher assignment but says Zou Sensation is up for it.

“He’s not at the top end of the market, but we’ve got a horse that tries his heart out every time,” he said.

Zou Sensation is rated a $12 chance, with Private Eye the early $2.10 favourite.
